White wines

Auxerrois
Thüringer Weingut Bad Sulza, Bad Sulza, Saale-Unstrut, QbA-dry

- delicate restrained Burgundy bouquet

- fragrant aromas of ripe apples, juicy pear & quince

- nutty note

The grape variety, which probably originated in the French county of Auxere, was brought to neighbouring Germany by the expulsion of the Huguenots from France and planted here by the displaced winegrowers. On the Saale and Unstrut rivers, the Auxerrois vine is cultivated on approx. 4ha and produces very tasty white wines here.

Bacchus
Weingut Matyas, Coswig, Saxony, QbA-dry

- floral, aromatic and fruity

- lively minerality, refreshing complexity

The Bacchus grape variety, a cross between Silvaner, Riesling and Müller - Thurgau, owes its popularity among winemakers in particular to the fact that it ripens early and thus reaches high levels of maturity. The Matyas family winery, located in the middle of the vineyards at the foot of the Friedewald in Coswig, has been run by daughter Andrea Leder since 2014. With her young team, cellar master Hendrik Weber and winemaker Klaus Mehlig, she continues the tradition and vision of her parents.

Riesling
Weingut Stefan Bönsch, Langebrück, Saxony, QbA-dry

- scent of vineyard peaches

- fruit in interplay with spicy minerality

The historic vineyard sites has been brought back to life. A little off the beaten track, the rocky subsoil with gneiss and syenite surprises. Riesling, Pinto Gris, Scheurebe, Pinot Noir, Traminer and Bronner for sparkling wine grow here. There are also 11 rows of Cabernet Dorio and Carbernet Dorsa for the Zweimalrot and the Rosé. Since 2015, Stefan Bönsch has been cultivating about 1ha with a view into the Tännichtgrund.

Blanc de Noir
Weingut Stefan Bönsch, Langebrück, Saxony, QbA-dry

- delicate bouquet of ripe pear and pink gooseberry on the nose

- nice interplay of sweetness and acidity

- elegant freshness, full-bodied, long and appealingly fresh finish

The special feature of Blanc de Noir is that a red grape variety is vinified white. This means that the grapes do not undergo a longer maceration period, as is more common, but are pressed and only the must is subsequently fermented. The result is a wine that looks like a white wine, but combines the aromas of both types of wine. At first sight and on the nose, it looks like a classic white wine with a fresh, flowery character, but on the palate, the structure and complexity of a red wine come to the fore.

Cabernet Blanc
Weingut Jan Ulrich,Diesbar-Seußlitz, Saxony, Prädikatswein-dry

- intense flavour of citrus fruit & gooseberry

- fine nuances of green pepper, pleasant residual sugar content

Since 1992, the Jan Ulrich winery has been a successful family business on the Saxon Wine Route, cultivating around 16.5ha of vines. With modern cellar technology, around 150,000 bottles of wine are produced each year. For the sake of the environment, the winery cultivates fungus-tolerant grape varieties, among others. This also includes Cabernet Blanc.

Weißburgunder
Weingut Mariaberg, Meißen, Saxony, QbA-dry

- aromas of ripe pear and vanilla

- good balance of sweetness, acidity and fruit

The winery Mariaberg is run by the Saxon Winemaker Princess 2010/2011 Anja Fritz. Anja Fritz‘s wines under the MARIABERG label are fresh and finely fruity with a clear varietal character. The bouquet is initially dominated by delicate aromas reminiscent of pear and vanilla, later revealing an animating, ripe pear. The wine is very creamy in the mouth. Sweetness, acidity and fruit are well balanced and provide a Pinot Blanc feeling that literally calls for a fish dish.

Quadrat I „Riesling & Traminer“
Thüringer Weingut Bad Sulza, Bad Sulza, Saale-Unstrut, Thüringen, QbA-dry

- impresses with its finesse and pleasant fruitiness

- intense, powerful bouquet that perfectly combines both grape varieties

The cuvée of RIESLING from GRAFENBERG and TRAMINER from SONNENBERG also has a special charm in Thuringia. This wine belongs to the so-called square wines: two grape varieties and two vineyard sites are always combined with the respective microclimatic  influences. The Sonnenberg consists of shell limestone soil, the Grafenberg of sandstone soil. Thus, the aromas of two grape varieties with the influences of two vineyard sites form very complex and exciting wines. These four parameters form the square. The Traminer complements the structure of the Riesling in the background without being too dominant.

Gutedel Großjenaer Blütengrund
Weingut Klaus Böhme, Kirchscheidungen,Saale Unstrut, Sachsen-Anhalt, Qualitätswein-dry

- acidic

The wine is a light, drinkable, fresh, fruit-driven and stimulating white wine that is predominantly vinified dry. With the best conditions and appropriate care in viticulture and vinification, Chasselas can also produce far more sophisticated wines; with occasionally impressive mineraltiy and a beautiful balance.

Grauburgunder Barrique Spätlese (late harvest)
Radebeuler Lößnitz, Weingut Matyas, Coswig, Saxony, Prädikatswein-dry

- fine and full-bodied, delicate wood notes

- accompanied by aromas of pear, quince and dried fruit

On the palate, this white wine from Saxony‘s Elbe Valley delights with its elegant melting, gentle power and rich gold in the glass. The finish is long and pleasing. This white barrique wine is made from 100% Pinot Gris grapes that ripen on the slopes of the Radebeuler Lößnitz vineyard just outside Dresden. After manual harvesting and fermentation, the wine is matured for five months in barrique barrels.

- very intense fruit aromas

Only premium wines are marketed under the name Bergstern, which represent the top of the quality pyramid of the Klaus Böhme winery. The multi-layered bouquet impresses with an enormous fruit concentration with aromas of grapefruit, ripe apples and refreshing citrus fruits, which contrasts with the gripping minerality and is complemented by the perfectly integrated acidity.

Pinotin
Thüringer Weingut Bad Sulza, Bad Sulza, Saale Unstrut, Thüringen, QbA-dry

Weingut Stefan Bönsch, Langebrück, Sachsen, QbA-dry

- Morello cherry meets elderberry

- filigree accompanied by Saxon oak

The Pinot Noir from Stefan Bönsch glows a wonderful ruby red in the glass. On the nose, this Pinot Noir from the Elbe Valley exudes a juicy, fruity aroma of morello cherries and ripe elderberries, subtly underscored by fine wood notes. The tastes reflects the fine fruity nose, complemented by the influence of Saxon oak, which gives this red wine a pleasant spiciness with hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. The finish is determined by the pleasantly filigree body and tannins embedded in lots of fruit. His great experience in the vineyard and wine cellar make Stefan Bönsch‘s wines a real Insider tip.

Scheurebe -S-
Weingut Stefan Bönsch, Langebrück, Saxony, Prädikatswein

- beautiful fruit interplay of sea buckthorn, passion fruit, lime and fig

- powerful and spicy taste with a distinctive residual sweetness

The historic vineyard site has been brought back to life. Somewhat off the beaten track, rocky subsoil with gneiss and syenite surprises. The Scheurebe is spontaneously fermented. An absolute rarity from the house of Bönsch, which - as he says himself - is a wine for the next 20 years and will not come back again so quickly. Only 200 bottles available. Therefore: Give this wine the attention it deserves, preferably with fruity desserts and strong cheese.
